Terra Ferma - Adopted!
Terra is a beautiful 1-2 year old female. Although she appears to be a Shepherd mix, she is only about 40-50 lbs. She has a beautiful fawn colored coat with white on her neck and black markings here and there.
Terra had a very rough life on the streets with a painful broken leg and puppies to care for.
She was found going in and out from under a portable school building at Carlos Rey Elementary. When the school officials tried to catch her she was being very protective. A couple of days later, they found out why… 2 tiny puppies were found wobbling around outside of the portable. The school officials wanted to call Animal Control but, one of the teachers called us first, she even offered to foster the mom and pups for us. We humanely trapped the mom and a few of our volunteers (and some teachers & students from the school) crawled under the portable and came out with, SURPRISE… 6 beautiful, healthy and sassy puppies. There were 4 females and 2 males.
Since the puppies were relatively healthy, once they were spayed/neutered and received all of their shots, they were put up for adoption. They were quickly adopted by loving families.
Terra could not be put up for adoption until her badly broken leg was repaired in surgery. The healing process has been long and painful, but Terra is now "The Wonder Dog".
She has made a full physical and emotional recovery. She has replaced distrust of people with love for people and other dogs.
When she first came into our group, she was known for being very timid, shy and fearful. She was also known as "The Great Escape Artist". Now, she is a happy go lucky young dog that loves to play and run. She gets along great with her foster mom's permanent dogs and 2nd foster dog(Diane)(see profile above). Since Diane is a young dog like Terra, the 2 of them play like crazy, then sleep like babies all night.
It is clear that Terra has no desire to escape from a loving home. We only ask that you have a 6 foot fence, just like we require for most of our dogs.
She bonds well with her people, and other dogs. In a very short amount of time, she will bond with her forever family and be a wonderful companion for many years to come.
As well as being a playful, young dog, she enjoys to cuddle up with her people. She enjoys her doggie bed or her people's bed, whichever is allowed.
She has become one of NMAF's favorite dogs because she has overcome so much. She reminds us that no matter how much abuse or neglect a dog experiences, it will return to being a loving and trusting companion given the chance.
Please call her foster mom, Jeanette, at 281-9719 or 228-7022, for any additional information.
