Phoebe

Phoebe is happy, cute, fluffy little dog that draws a lot of admiration from people. She walks well on a leash and she’s been on numerous hiking trails on Sandia Mountain. She is in good shape, is quite sturdy for a small dog, and can hike for 4-6 miles and 4-6 hours at a walking pace. She rides well in a car if she is in a kennel or crate. Phoebe is just a little larger than a large cat. Her hair is long and silky but it doesn’t tangle. She requires trimming every 6 weeks or so.

Phoebe is a very smart little dog and will learn new commands rapidly, especially if she receives treats to reward her for doing the right thing. She has a mind of her own, so she needs consistent training and rewarding to encourage obedience. She learns by watching other dogs and she learns from human interactions. It is fun to teach her because she learns so fast.

Phoebe likes going to the dog park or to doggie day care and loves being around other dogs. She will chase balls or Frisbees and sometimes she’ll retrieve them. When she’s on a leash she barks at other dogs, so she does best in an off-leash area like a dog park. Everyone at the dog park loves her because she is happy and feisty while playing with larger dogs. She stands on her hind legs to greet all the humans at the dog park. Phoebe is a good jumper, and she cannot be reliably contained by barriers or fences lower than 4 feet. She might enjoy agility training because she is so energetic and so smart.

Phoebe wants to live with people who are home almost all the time. She wants to be an indoor dog. She is happy to stay in a crate at night while her people are sleeping, but she wants to interact with people during the day. She likes to sleep on furniture, but she has also adjusted well to sleeping on her own dog bed. She plays with toys, and likes knotted rope toys that she can shake. She likes to chew, and she becomes intensely focused on chewing rawhide bones or antlers if they are given to her, and very possessive if there is another dog in the house. She loves any type of treat-dispensing toy and is quite ingenious about discovering ways to get the treats from the toys. She is a lot of fun to watch, and she will be a wonderful dog given the right home with an attentive owner that can spend a lot of time with her.

Phoebe will chase cats or other small animals. A home without smaller pets would be best to prevent conflicts.
