Cody - Adopted!
Cody is a 2 year old male beagle mix weighing approximately 35 lbs. Although Cody is primarily an indoor dog, his forever home will need to have a decent sized fenced yard (an apartment setting is not suitable for him) for him to run around in and play outdoors. The fence will need to be secure to the ground (no gaps underneath) and be at least 5 feet high. One of Cody’s tricks is to open flip latches on gates so the gate must have a secure latch on it. He would love to have a doggie door in his new home that will allow him access to run and play in his new back yard and then come back into the house for a quick nap. Although it is NM and our weather is generally hot and dry, Cody has shown a fear to thunderstorms and will need to be kept inside if one threatens.
Like most beagles, Cody knows how to bay and bark! There is minimal (or moderate depending on the circumstances) barking in a remote or rural setting where he currently lives with his foster family. It is uncertain what his barking tendencies will be with close neighbors. He is a quick learner so will most likely adapt to the setting with appropriate training.
Cody has not been tested with cats in the home with him. He has shown that he will chase the foster’s resident feral cat, but so far seems to exist okay with the cat. Cody has had limited exposure to children, but has shown to behave fine when around older children. Cody would love to have a canine playmate – possibly another beagle or a small to medium size non-aggressive dog.
Cody knows about house training and does pretty well if he takes care of his business before staying in the house for long periods or overnight. His new owner will need to continue to work with him on this aspect and with time and dedication he will respond positively.
Cody needs a home where he is allowed on the furniture and would probably love nothing more than to cuddle up with his new owner for the night. With his curiosity and his lingering puppyish ways he needs to have access to toys that are ‘his’ own to chew on. If he is not given his own toys to chew on he will ultimately find small objects in the house to chew on (e.g., tooth brushes, etc.).
