Casey Greyhound mix Date: 01/05/2009 Are you looking for a special girl in your life? A beautiful brindle, 45 lb girl that loves to watch Dog Town; the feel of flannel; the smell of Febreeze and basking in the sun? This could be the girl for you! Casey is an extremely smart, almost two year old greyhound mix who is house trained, crate trained and knows all the commands (and follows them nicely when she’s in the mood). She is an inquisitive girl who can open doors, play watchdog and hide and seek, and who has a great sense of humor (yes, she is a prankster –but does not destroy anything – she might however think it extremely funny to move pillows around the house or hide all her toys). She is very quick to learn new tricks and is always ready and able to try anything you ask of her. Casey has a lot of energy and will demand her daily walks – regardless of the weather (or sulk if she doesn’t get them). Her favorite walks are when she gets to hold the leash of one of her foster siblings and lead them around. Casey can play rough and tumble with the best of them or be as soft as silk when she cuddles in your lap--and she loves to cuddle! Casey is a low shedder and she adores kids and would love to have one to call her own.

She currently shares her foster home with two other dogs that she respects and loves. She doesn't make friends instantly with most dogsshe meets outside the home; she is picky and needs to get to know them to see if they'll make "her cut." If you are looking for a dog that is happy laying around the house – Casey is not for you. If you are looking for a companion that will give you hours of laughter and joy and wants to always be by your side – she could be it!

Ask yourself - can you handle a dog with an IQ that is close to yours? If you’d like more information – call Kristi at 505-980-7827. Only experienced dog people please!
Choco Border Collie mix Date: 11/05/2008 For information about Choco, directly contact foster mom, Karon at 281-0330 (evenings only).

Chocolate is a shy smooth coated border collie cross about one year old. We've had this guy since he was a 6-week old puppy and he has an interesting rescue story. Be sure to ask us about it. We can not understand why no one ever looks at Chocolate. He is the sweetest, dearest young boy, a year and a half old. Perhaps it is because he is shy and not particularly brightly colored. He has matured in to an exceptionally handsome fellow with beautiful caramel colored points. This guy is gently affectionate and a favorite of us all. He is well behaved, almost through his puppy chewing stage. He is quiet in the house, and can be appropriately active outdoors. He would make a great house dog. He takes a while to warm up to you, but when he does, he calmly and devotely attaches and offers his steady unshowy love. Because he is timid, he is not needy or demanding as some that are more demonstrative. He wants nothing more than to curl up on the bed, the rug and be there while you read nearby or do house chores. He is a wonderful companion and might appeal to the more quiet person with a similar shy personality. He would be happiest with another dog to love on and sleep with, one that will also be affectionate with him. He can keep up with the active ones, but be mellow with the old ones, so he is a perfect big brother. OK with cats but can still occasionally chase them. Needs a calm stable home in order to thrive, one that accepts him for who he is and doesn't require a dog to be an extrovert.
Cotton Border Collie mix Date: 11/02/2008 For more information about Cotton, directly call Karon @ 281-0330 (evenings only).

Cotton is a special needs spayed female dog who is five-years old and weighs 45 pounds. Cotton's first 4-5 years on this earth have not been the best. This sweet border collie cross desperately wants that to change. She was kept isolated in a small space on a chain without interaction much of her life and she developed a compensating behavior of going in frantic circles even when free. She is currently being treated for her dysfunction with alprazolam/zanax and a doggie prozac equivalent, but even when better (and she is improving) will need a special family. She will need a doggie companion with whom to interract, and human parents who are home more often than not and who will keep her in the house as much as possible. In the house she is normal, but outside she is likely to resume her frantic ways. Cotton is extremely affectionate, housebroken and well behaved in the house. She has adorable freckled socks. Want someone to hike and jog with? This is your girl!

Dancer is a spayed, female Pug who is approximately 7 years old. She is smart, dignified, and caring. She likes nice leisurely walks, and snuggling on the couch together! Dancer is very good-humored and pleasant, but she prefers things to be relaxed and unstressful. Dancer is looking for a family with older children or ideally to be a pet for a retired couple who have had dogs before. She loves a quient and calm environment.
Jon Jon ** JOURNAL FEATURED PET! ** Date: 08/12/2008 JANUARY 2, 2009 - JON JON IS A FEATURED PET IN THE 'Fetch' SECTION OF THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL.

JonJon (JJ) is a very sweet 3-year old, 50 pound Lab/Hound mix, neutered male. He is a great house dog with excellent house manners. He is eager to please, well behaved, house and crate-trained. He knows how to sit, come, lay down and ‘wait’. JJ is wonderful and gentle with children of all ages, especially with small children 3 years old or older. He is in excellent physical condition and should have daily exercise. He loves playing fetch, chasing and catching balls, retrieving Frisbees, and playing tug of war with you, or with another dog. He gets along well with non-aggressive dogs. He would love an active dog companion, but would also be gentle and considerate with an older dog. He is not recommended for a home with cats. JJ is a Special Needs dog. His condition is analogous to OCD in humans. He sometimes feels compelled to chase moving objects such as small animals, cars, bikes, and birds. This tendency is aggravated by stress, and may cause him to become frustrated and excited. He is currently receiving medication but there is a good chance it could be discontinued once he felt secure in a permanent loving home. JJ desperately needs someone special with a big heart to love him, patience to understand him, and commitment to care for him for the rest of his life. He will repay you with a love that is beyond words.
Mati Austrialian Cattle Dog Date: 12/05/2008 For more information or to meet Mati, call Pia directly @ 505-331-3335. Mati is a spayed, female, 11-month old Australian Cattle dog approximately 25 lbs.

Mati's foster family says she is just about the most perfect dog! She is active, intelligent, and will probably always have a cute puppy-quality about her. She loves to play with a soccer ball and 'herd' it right back to you.

While long walks or runs everyday are excellent for her with enough attention and playtime she still thrives if you miss an occasional exercise day.

Mati is perfect in her crate and is house-trained. She does extremely well playing with other dogs but she considers cats just playthings. She also can entertain herself with stuffed animals and other toys. Mati’s a bit lively for young children, but a school-aged child in the family would be fine. Mati's a really good snuggler!

When Mati looks straight at you, her eyes are so brilliant and she is so intelligent, you’ll swear she is going to open her mouth and ask you a question . . .

Walter Jack Russell mix Date: 12/14/2008 If you would like information about Walter, you must CONTACT Pia @ 331-3335 DIRECTLY.

Little 11-pound WALTER is a Jack Russell-Chihuahua-Heeler mix! Walter's varied and darling mutt mixes make him the fastest, smartest, lap dog ever! He is just too CUTE. Walter's foster mom is working to improve his doggie manners and obedience cues, as well as boosting his trust levels. He is fitting in great with the other dogs, but considers himself the boss of them all! Walter's Chihuahua background probably contributes to his love of calm, loving adults over quick-moving, rambunctious kids. His ideal home would be with empty-nesters, singles, or active seniors.
