Annie has a sweet and affectionate disposition. She loves to play with a feathered wand or feline flyer, and enjoys being brushed and petted. She's a little on the anxious side and is looking for just the right home -- a calm family who will love her and be patient with her feline eccentricities and work through them with her. For instance, she has a history of wanting to hide in a cozy cupboard in the daytime and come out to play and socialize with her humans at the stroke of nightfall! (We were thinking that the Addams Family would be a perfect match!)

F-713 Antares - Antares is an adorable 4-month old Maine Coon-mix kitten with a tail almost as big as the rest of him. He was trapped from a feral colony, and was going to be neutered and returned to his colony (that's why he has a missing ear tip), but a couple of NMAF volunteers thought he seemed pretty friendly, and could be tamed even though he was older than usual for taming kittens. They were right. He spent a few weeks in a cage getting used to being handled and petted, and is now the sweetest, most affectionate little guy imaginable. He can still be skittish, especially with strangers, but will probably lose that as he gets older and spends more time with people. Extremely playful and loves to chase feather toys. He likes other cats and gets along well with his buddy Dexter. Don't know how he would react to dogs or kids, but he's generally outgoing and good-natured. Excellent litter box and other habits. The other Maine Coon-mix cats taken from this colony are all large, fluffy and beautiful. I expect this little guy will be too.

Archies is a neutered, male Dachshund who is approximately one and a half years old. Archie is delightful and funny, playful and loving, obedient and handsome! He loves walks, riding in the car, playtime, toys, and chasing a ball. He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES his people and is good company. He will bark when he is put into a crate, but settles down; he is not a barking nuisance. Archie is housetrained and occasionally marks. Without a doubt, this little guy has the sweetest personality and aims to please! He is a very social boy. Another compatible dog is essential or lots of dog parks and doggy “dates" would be needed. He is housetrained and uses doggy door. He will benefit from dog obedience training. Unsure about children.

Baby Sadie is a spayed, female Hound who is 1 year old. She is 55 pounds. She is friendly with people and with other dogs, energetic and loves to play in the water! Baby Sadie is athletic and agile, playful and fun-loving. She is good at playing keep-away and fetch with rope toys and balls. She is an affectionate girl who loves to haver her tummy and ears rubbed. She can hang gout with you on the could and watch TV too. She loves treats, soft toys and chew flips. Baby Sadie is smart and responsive. She is crate trained, but needs more attention to her housetraining and house manners (e.g., jumpin up on things and people). Sensitive Sadie may pee submissively if she things you are upset with her. A home without cats is probably bst as she seems a little too interested in them. Very patient and careful training would be needed otherwise.

Bailey is a 4-year old neutered male English Mastiff-Chow Chow mix. He is an extra large dog at 125 pounds and a pure "teddy bear" who is extremely affectionate and will drown you in kisses!! Bailey's breed mixes lend him to being naturally protective and loyal to his family--he displays an initial appropriate defensive stance around strangers, but with acquaintances he is very friendly and affectionate.
Bailey's foster has observed that he can enjoy playing with non-dominant, but not timid, medium-size dogs. However he has demonstrated spotty, but significant aggression when around large dogs (male and female). Cats, small, and timid dogs are not recommended as companions. If you are not experienced in dog-to-dog behavior management, it would be best that he is the only dog.

Bayleigh is a one year+, spayed female Border Collie and Labrador mix "teenager" with a loving Labby personality. Somewhat of a free spirit, she does need someone who will be lovingly firm with her. She's smart and knows how to train her owner although she herself is very trainable. She loves being a house dog and is well behaved in the house. She's over eager with cats, so recommended for a no-cat home, although she might be able, over time, to adjust. She knows sit, down, come (when it's worth it to her), shakes paws, and can ring bells on the door to ask to go out. She loves to play against your legs curling around and through while being petted. She enjoys her ropes, sticks, balls, tug of war, and would love to have someone teach her the game of fetch. A dog who never stops smiling, she is good with kids. She can be a little in-your-face when playing with other dogs and needs a dog to be firm with her about laying down the rules. Probably needs a same size or bigger doggie companion..may be too much for a smaller dog. Bayleigh is a perfect dog for the Labrador lover in you. She is not a full breed, her tail curls and some white sneaked on to her chest and toes, but her coat is shiny and silky like a lab should be. This girl is outgoing with a very willing disposition!

Belle is a female Norwich Terrier mix approximately 2-3 years old. Cute as a button – cuddly as a teddy bear – so soft and sweet! Chai is a sweet and sensitive little guy who is so lovey and cuddly! He is a 2-year old neutered male Peek-a-Poo. He seems to like older men in particular and attaches himself to one person. Chai is mostly a calm and quiet guy, who will cry and whine a little if you leave the house; but he does not act out – will not chew and leaves everything untouched. He is well potty-trained and has not had any accidents with his fosters. Chai chooses when he will listen to you, but he is getting a little better at trying to pay attention (or at least faking it really good!)

Charlie is wonderfully smart and very affectionate. Charlie is WELL TRAINED: he sits, comes, waits, lays down, and walks nicely on the leash. He’s housetrained, very well behaved and a pleasure to have in the house. He’s up-beat, yet laid back in the house and very sensitive and eager to obey rules that you may want to establish for him. He’s not a chewer and not destructive. He loves being with you, but also knows how to occupy himself nicely with a Kong toy or rawhides until you are ready to go for a nice, long walk or jog. He loves outings, hiking, swimming, etc. Charlie’s most relaxed and happiest when he’s with someone who is able to be firm and consistent leader for him. Charlie prefers a household with grown-ups only; children are too annoying for him (sorry 'bout that!). Charlie gets along with laid-back, non-aggressive dogs.

Corky is a 15-week old male Chihuahua mix. Corky is a happy playful pup. He loves to play with other dogs and needs lots of attention from his humans. He gets along with all dogs but doesen't know his own strength yet so can't be left alone with small animals. He has not been around cats and he would want to pounce on them and play. He loves children but is a little rough for very young children that he could knock down. He is doing very good with his potty training. He is crate trained and is very good on a leash. He loves walks and lots of toys. Right now Corky is learning that it is not okay to chew on people but sometimes he forgets. Corky is ready to grow up and love his new forever family.

Crystal is one of our recent adoptions, and was one of the puppy mill dogs, She had a dull coat, no zip in her walk, and she was unsocialized, sad, and in need of some enormous love and attention -- which she never knew in her life. Not only was she unable to breathe fresh air and run outside with green grass under her feet, poor Crystal had no socialization, no human or dog companions, and no love in her life. She had been used as a breeding female, and spent her days and nights cooped up in a wire crate, not even able to stand, sit or lie down on anything but the hard wire base of the crate.

Daisy is approximately 1 year old and spayed. Daisy is loving, playful, and a sweet mannered girl. She is gentle and cuddly. She needs to learn and adjust to a new routine when adopted. She does well in a crate and is a quiet companion; she does not bark except to alert you to an issue. If left alone, and with opportunity to get out, she will look for her humans. She bonds very easily. Daisy is a great dog with a loving personality and a yearning for a companion with time to teach her to play with a ball. She will reward you with many kisses and cuddles as well as loyalty! Daisy has been a stray for an unknown amount of time and has many small bite wounds to show for it--she needs a loving family with ample time to play and love on her, take her to obedience classes, and finally give her a 'real' home. She is house and crate-trained, and uses a doggy door. Daisy is good around kids who are respectful and gentle with dogs. She would really enjoy having a doggy friend to play with when adopted into her forever family!

F-702 Dexter - Mr. Personality in a tuxedo! Dexter is a sleek, muscular young dude around 1 year old. He'll be a big, solid boy when he finishes filling out. He was a stray rescued off the street by NMAF volunteers, and turned out to be very friendly and affectionate. He may not do well with some other adult cats - he really wants to be the boss. He seems to get along great with kittens, though. Gizmo is a male Brussels Griffon/Schnauzer mix who is approximately 1 year old and just happens to be the CUTEST DOG EVER according to his fosters. He has a great personality and is a very smart boy. He loves other dogs and lots of toys. His house-training is going very well. Gizmo was a breeding dog at a puppy mill and due to that awful past, is scared of loud or unfamiliar noises. If you move too fast, he'll run away scared and hide in his crate (which is his sanctuary and he must have one). He is needy and forms strong bonds with loving humans. Gizmo's adopters must be willing to work at HIS pace for confidence building and gaining trust. A calm, quiet home environment will be needed for him and people that are patient, very loving, and frequently at-home or stay-at-home.

Graykitty is a large, super-sweet cat. He is 10 years old. He is very good with other cats. In fact, he and Starshine seem to consider themselves brothers, eating together and often walking in tandem. He loves people and is fine with even multiple dogs. He even likes the 3-year-old child in his foster home, especially when she moves a feather toy for him. He is on medication for asthma and does well on it. He will need to continue it for life, but he seems to know it helps and actually comes running for it! He will spit out a pill that is not given properly, but never bites or scratches. The only thing that really unnerves him is a vacuum cleaner, which he hides from!

Levi is a 7-month old male Brussels Griffon-Miniature Schnauzer mix. Handsome as the day is long-combines the best features of his Schnauzer and Brussells Griffon parents. Levi is very sweet-natured, a little shy at first, cuddly and has a calmness belying his 7 months of age. He if friendly and playful with all dogs, loves to chase, plays with chew toys and stuffed animals, particularly the squeaky kind which he disassembles! He can be assertive and does not enjoy being bossed around--he will use his best canine instructions--anxious to please and is always ready to receive that tummy scratch or ear rub from his human companions. Levi needs leash/harness training, but rides happily in a car and loves outings. Levi comes when called by his name and he knows the basics of house training, but will not always make it outside on time. He will use a doggy door. Levi and cats are an unknown. Levi's preferred home is one with a family that has time to train and give him direction with his manners (but he learns fast). No young children <10 years old or children that may be that age but play rough, or are disrespectful/tease dogs, because of his shyness and dislike of sudden movements. Mack is a 2-year old neutered, male Chihuahua. He is a tiny boy with a handsome face and lovely tan markings. Oh, my! What a character this gal is! Maggie loves the sprinkler and getting into water the most. She loves chew and pull toys. You get a real good work-out from throwing the ball or chew toy for her to chase or by playing pull with her. She does very well during walks and morning jogs; it would be especially cool if her adopted human was a runner and would take her running with them. Or, if they were hunters in the family and they took time to put her through training to field retrieve—she likes to chase the birds in the yard—maybe a natural. Neville is a sweet, playful, and very loving one-year-old neutered male with medium-length gray fur. He has a silky, medium-length coat that is a gorgeous solid gray color with a lion’s mane and a beautiful tail. He has been in his foster home since December 15, 2007 and has adjusted to living with 2 dogs (male & female) and 2 cats (both female). He is an energetic blend of playful kitten and mature adult cat who loves all toys. He loves people, is affectionate, very social, and is extremely playful and acrobatic. He is generally a quiet cat, but has an adorable meow. He likes to sleep on the bed with his foster parents at night. He would be happy in a forever home with another cat for a playmate who can keep up with him and appreciates his playful nature. He would also be happy as an only pet if he has lots of love, play time and attention from his humans. Nicholas is a neutered male, Papillion 1 1/2 years old. He is very charming and smart. He loves everyone that he meets and wants to be greeted by all. He is very energetic and loves to play. He is crate and house trained, but prefers to have more play time than crate time that's for sure. He loves to go for walks, but needs a little more training on how to stay with the person walking him. He hasn't been walked on a leash much, but it appears he is learning more about it daily and picks it up quickly. The best home for Nicholas would be one that has another small dog and no children under the age of 12 (due to his size), and someone at home much of the day to engage him with frequent play and exercise to release some of his high energy.

Oliver is a male approximately one and a half years old. He is a confident guy who can handle rowdy play even with a 75-lb. shepherd mix. He can quickly rise to the pack leader if he is left to making that decision. Oliver can climb and jump so he needs to be an inside dog when his humans are away. He is completely housetrained and is comfortable in his crate when needed. His energy level is pretty high and he loves long walks. He cuddles up nicely too when he is ready for a nap. Oliver loves his tummy rubs and kisses. He would prefer being adopted into a home where there are other dogs so he could play a lot. He has basic manners down pat, but needs a little training to polish him up. He will bark to greet visitors or to let the other dogs know his intentions. Romeo is pretty much housetrained and will “ask” to go out. He does not routinely mark indoors, but has on occasion. He is mindful when asked to stop or come, but would not say he is obedience-trained. Romeo does well on a leash and loves to walk. He will often stretch out and lounge by your feet, be quiet and calm until you change the activity. He would not do well as an only dog or for long periods by himself; his good behaviors would deteriorate if so. He does not like to be grabbed suddenly or surprised; he has snapped but not bitten down. He is fairly submissive, but can exhibit a strong, self-assured position.

Sparky ia a 14-week old, male, miniature Schnauzer. Sparky is a very mellow puppy but also playful at the same time. He likes to take naps wherever his body lands. Suki was severely abused and starved before coming to rescue and after a year has recovered emotionally enough to now be ready for her forever home. Her home should be quiet, no raised voices, low key activity only, with not a lot of people coming and going. She is very good with people but because of her history, needs patience and gentle, slow non-threatening handling. She is extremely loving, good with cats and would thrive as an only dog whose guardian would dote on her. Suki does jump high fences with a single bound so will do best as an inside dog, walked on a leash or contained with a 6' fence with no opportunities for her to scale it. Would love an owner/couple who is retired with well behaved grandchildren to dote on her.
