Ella May - Adopted!

Ella is a TerrierX, 16lbs, stands ~12” at the shoulder, spayed female, apx. 4-5 yrs old and is a sturdy, athletic pet. Ella is from Oklahoma where her former owner collected too many pets and was unable to take care of all of them. She came to NMAF on April 25 with about a dozen other surrenders. Ella is being fostered with a pal, Kiki, and they have been very close during their transition.

Ella is shy at first, but warms up within minutes. Although she is not in a foster home with children she accepts attention from the children who visit the Saturday Adoption Clinics without hesitation. Ella would do well with a family if the children were 7-8yrs old and older. She loves to fetch in the backyard and will play until she is too tired to retrieve the toy. When she rests after playing she spreads her legs out behind her so her tummy is flat on the floor. Ella is leash trained with a harness and walks in the open space right next to you.

Ella sleeps in a kennel at night and after she adjusted to her new foster home, she is quiet until morning. She appears to be house trained, but since she is sharing her foster home with five other dogs, when one dog wants outside they all go out. Ella is very smart and would be easy to doggie door train. She gets along well with her feline roommates and doesn’t show a tendency to chase unless one of her other doggie pals shows interest in taking a quick look at the kitties.

Ella comes when called, knows the command for sit and follows through most of the time, she also understands no-bark and off. She will need additional command training to be a good all-round family member. Ella is very sweet and shows a lot of affection. She will sit next to you and then climb into your lap and nudges your hand and arm to get more affection from you; before you know it she will be nuzzling your neck trying to get as close to you as possible. If you’re looking for a best friend, don’t look any further…Ella will be your BFF!
