Oliver (Twist);apx 2-3 yrs; male; SheltieX; small dog; 10 lbs
Oliver was found in NW Albuquerque running in traffic and nearly met his demise, but as luck would have it he was rescued by one of our foster volunteers. His history is unknown, but it appears that either he was on his own for quite some time or his former home was not the best place for this little dear heart. After a good bill of health from the veterinarian, grooming, and gentle training he has started to trust people again.
He was named Oliver Twist for his sheltie trait of spinning in circles when he gets excited. He is living with 3 cats and 3 dogs and gets along famously with all his new friends. Oliver is making excellent progress on his training – he has learned to walk on a leash, come when called, fetches when there is no competition from other dogs, he is mostly house trained, and sleeps in a kennel at night when placed there. When invited, he will sit on the sofa for short periods of time, but prefers to lie on the floor near you.
Oliver needs additional time to adjust to greeting strangers, both humans and dogs, learn to be calm in public areas, like Petsmart, and since his current home does not have children, it is unknown how he would adjust to that environment. He barks when neighboring dogs show aggression, but quiets down when told. He is a loving little dog - he enjoys being outside with his current pals, loves attention from both men and women, equally, and likes to play.
