Sweet and Petite!
Darby is a 2 year old Rat Terrier cross, with the petite but well muscled body of this breed. At about 30 pounds she is the perfect size - not too big, not too small - just right!! She is as sweet as she can be - intelligent, alert and loving once she gets to know you. Inquisitive of everything, Darby wants to be in the middle of any new adventure you might propose. She loves her canine foster-sister Tessa, romping in the yard and sleeping in her crate at night. She lives with an older kitty and has learned she is off limits so cats in the house may be OK.
Darby is a lively girl and needs the stimulation of having a mellow canine playmate or a mom or dad who works from home. She has learned the basic obedience commands and is proficient with a doggie door. She is extremely treat motivated which makes training all that easier! She has recently been allowed off leash while hiking and is doing very well with her recall.
Her ideal home would be one with a big backyard, a fence at least 6 ft tall (this girl is very athletic!) and a four legged playmate. She would do best with children 10 or over as she has a strong herding drive and appears not to have been raised with little ones.
If you are unfamiliar with this breed, here are some facts to consider. Rat Terriers make good watchdogs. They are quick, very playful and are not yappers. They are lively, feisty like other terriers and have a fearless nature. They are eager to please and respond and pick training up faster than most dogs. They love to go with you and to do what you do. All of these traits can be found in Miss Darby.
Darby is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all shots, heartworm negative and on preventative. She is doggie door and crate trained.
