Contact Kate at kmolsbe@gmail.com for more information about Winston.
When little Winston came to NMAF out of a rural shelter, he had no hair on the backs of his ears or along his spine. The shelter thought he had some form of skin disease so had marked him to only be handled with gloves. He was very frightened, terribly thin, but sweet in nature. An exam by a local vet thought he was actually part Chinese Crested, so that is how we listed him. In the few weeks since he has come into foster care, with good nutrition and a calm & loving environment, his coat has begun to grow back in all the bare spots. A second evaluation by Dr. Martin at VCA-Wyoming told us he is not Chinese Crested, so hence his change in breed. Little Winston has blossomed in foster care - he is a happy and playful little guy (still under 9 pounds but putting on needed weight) and enjoys his buddy Billie a lot. He is not good at sharing his foster mom and is protective of his food bowl, so if he finds a Furever Home with another dog, his family will need to be aware of that. We believe he could also be an only dog as long as he can have access to other dogs through family or friends to play with. He prefers dogs near his own size and who like to play.
Winston still needs to be neutered and that will happen on November 10th (vet clinics are still backed up for spay/neuters...), but he could go to his Furever Home before that if his family is willing to bring him for his appointment and see him through the surgery recovery. He is up-to-date on all shots and microchipped. He has had his heartworm test and it was negative.
If you are interested in meeting Winston, please complete an application and email it to dogs@nmaf.org. There is no commitment or guarantee for adoption, but your application allows for screening before setting up a meet & greet with his foster.
Because home visits are required, NMAF dogs cannot be adopted out of the greater Albuquerque / Santa Fe area.
