Ursula is a female-spayed 1-2yr old Scottish Terrier. Like all Scotties, Ursula is hardy and lovable. She has a course, wiry coat that feels bristle-like (black/gold with a tuft of white on her chest). Ursula demonstrates all the characteristics of a Scottie: brave and alert, charming and full of character, playful and friendly, but can be stubborn at times so she needs a firm, confident owner who can sound authoritative when obedience training. Scotties like to dig, but Ursula has not shown a tendency for this. She is learning how to walk on a leash, she is kennel trained, housebroken, knows how to use a doggie door, and is learning basic commands (sit, stay, off, etc.). Ursula needs daily walks with her pack…both dogs and humans.
Scotties make good house pets, however children need to be taught how to display leadership over the dog or the dog will not be good with them. The dog needs to clearly know the rules of the home. Ursula was formerly-fostered by a family with an 8yr old girl. She wasn’t used to children, but never nipped or tried to, and eventually Ursula began to come to the girl when called.
Ursula has lived with cats – one cat at her former foster home and now three with her current foster. She is still curious, does chase with the intent to play, but not all the time. Ursula has always had other dogs in her pack and after she overcomes her shyness she fits right in and will start bouncing around, playing, and exploring. Ursula seeks out affection and is very loving. She’s still very much like a puppy – loves chew toys, bones, rawhides, etc. She is often reminded what is appropriate to chew on and what is not, so Ursula is very responsive and demonstrates that she knows the difference.
Ursula will make a great, fun family member for someone who loves the terrier temperament. The things that won our hearts was the adorable puppy bouncing, the quick runs to give kisses and dart away to play again, and watching her explore things even when she was a little intimidated. She’s very sweet and feisty – and full of personality!
