Kale has had a rough time of it from the very start of her young life.
She and her litter mates were taken to Animal Humane at the age of 2 months. After getting over a respiratory illness, Kale was adopted.
Fast forward 5 months - Kale was dropped off at the City shelter by her adopter. The shelter scanned her and found that she had a chip from her days at Animal Humane. Animal Humane reclaimed her.
Her condition was shocking. She suffered with severe allergies and the adopter did nothing about it. Her skin was raw, red and scabby from her continuous scratching. She was completely miserable and despondent. The good folks at Animal Humane started treating her allergies. She was slowly making progress towards becoming the beautiful girl she once was. The best thing is that her happy, energetic, sweet personality had returned as her itching and discomfort subsided.
Animal Humane knew that their chances of finding the right home for Kale in a shelter environment were not good. Also they did not have the resources to continue treatment of Kale. That is when they called New Mexico Animal Friends. They asked us if we could take Kale in as one of our own.
Our Dog Adoption Coordinator went over to Animal Humane to meet Kale.
Immediately it was clear that this was a very special girl that was as loving and happy go lucky as a young girl should be.
We brought her into NMAF..
Kale will need to be on a medication called Apoquel possibly for the rest of her life. The drug has proven to be a miracle drug for her. The medication will run about $35/month. When you meet this precious girl you will see that she is well worth the money.
