Goldie is an absolutely beautiful girl that came to NMAF from the Valencia County Shelter where she wound up as a stray. We have no history on her but do know she is healthy, and has now been spayed, microchipped, and is up-to-date on all her shots. She has a lovely, soft, red-gold coat, kohl rimmed eyes, and white highlights on her chest and toes. She may be a Shepherd & Golden Retriever or Setter mix as she is more red than blond and is medium in size (45#). Goldie loves people and you will find her leaning up against you shortly after meeting, looking up at you with her expressive eyes. If you are lucky, she will close her eyes in rapture while you stroke her soft fur.
Goldie needs a home where her owner knows how to be a strong leader from the start as she will test her limits pretty quickly after becoming comfortable. She has lived with a large pack in previous foster care and likes to play - rough, but can be reactive to new dogs until she learns to trust them, which comes through her trust in you. A proper introduction to any other resident dogs is a must. She would do best with dogs her own size or bigger. NMAF will provide professional training, if needed, to her adopter to help in her transition to her Forever Home. As a young dog, exercise needs to be an important part of her life - she could be trained to work with a runner, hiker, etc. She likes children - school age would be preferred. Cats are most likely not in her future as her prey drive is high. She sleeps quietly in a crate at night, is house-trained, and loves to spend time with her people. As she is still a puppy, her family can expect some puppy antics, but she is very intelligent and takes direction well. She also needs a secure yard & fence (block preferred - 6 ft.+) to keep her safe. In her new foster home, she has made friends with both resident dogs and is continuing her training - and now knows sit, focus, down, wait, leave-it, and stop commands. More to come!!
