Jane is a beautiful Red Heeler mix that is approximately 2 years old. She is a medium size dog weighing 44 pounds. She has a very loving soul and bonds quickly to her human. She makes sounds of joy as you hug her and love on her. She is an excellent companion dog. Jane enjoys car rides, playing chase, and throwing her toys up into the air.
Jane came from a rural NM setting and is an owner surrender. Her family was not able to take care of her basic needs and did the most loving thing they could do - allow our rescue group to find her the perfect forever home. We know that Jane is hard of hearing but do not know the extent of her hearing loss. This is not uncommon of her breed. She can hear a variety of frequencies and can be trained using the appropriate techniques and tools such as sign language and whistles. An owner familiar with hearing impaired dogs would be helpful in her new life.
Jane needs a secure fenced/walled in yard. A 6 foot block wall would be sufficient as long as there is nothing up against the wall that she can use as a springboard to get over it. She loves to jump up on things, including tables(!), and is currently being trained out of this habit. If not a block wall, her fencing needs to be buried securely in the ground, such as coyote fencing.
This pretty girl has had some instability in her life and therefore has some separation anxiety. Now that she is in a more stable environment she is doing better but will need some extra TLC and comforting when she goes to her new forever home. She has been known to dig out of a dog run in a state of panic in her previous life.
Jane is currently in a foster home with numerous other dogs and is doing well. She would do well in a forever home where she has a dog buddy to play and cuddle with and who can act as her guide and trainer. As an only dog she would need someone that is home with her or can take her to work.
Please come meet this special girl at our adoption clinic held on Saturdays. It is always best to call ahead of time and make sure that she will be attending.
Because home visits are required, NMAF dogs cannot be adopted out of the greater Albuquerque / Santa Fe area.
