Nellie - Adopted
Female
Chihuahua mix - 6.6 pounds
Born 2019
Contact Kate at kmolsbe@gmail.com for more information about Nellie.
Nellie is a pretty little Chihuahua mix, picked up as a stray with little Bandit (now adopted) and wound up at a rural shelter. The two were so protective of each other, no one could handle them. NMAF took the pair and separated them within 24 hours and the protectiveness disappeared!! Since then, both have blossomed into happy little dogs, sweet, playful and social. Nellie is still a little shy with new people but warms up quickly. She keeps trying to play with her two senior Yorkie sisters in her foster home without much success (not Nellie's fault...), so we are seeking an adopter that has another small, playful dog in the home. Cats are an unknown. She has learned to go and sit by the back door to tell her foster mom she wants to go outside, and she regularly explores the backyard looking for lizards but has yet to catch one. She likes to cuddle but only on her terms and when SHE wants to (as she really is quite the princess!!). At 6.6 pounds, she is tiny so should not be placed in a home with young children (under 10). At approximately 1.5 yrs. old (shelter had her estimated at 9 months), she still is young enough to require regular exercise, so just being a lap dog is not recommended. Nellie was just spayed on October 1st and is doing well. She will be ready to go to her new home around October 8th, but she can do a meet & greet before then.
If you are interested in meeting Nellie, please complete an application and email it to dogs@nmaf.org in order to be considered. And to set up a meet & greet. The application is not a guarantee for adoption nor commitment, but it helps us screen applicants for suitability.
Because home visits are required, NMAF dogs cannot be adopted out of the greater Albuquerque / Santa Fe area.
