Star Wishes: Everyone knows you can wish upon a Star, right? "Starlight, Starbright, first star I see tonight..." But did you also know that Stars can have wishes, too? Well, this little girl certainly does! She is wishing sooooo hard for her new Furrever Home right now - can it be here in time for Christmas? Here is what she wishes for:
*A kind and patient owner who will love her for the sweet soul she is.
*A grassy backyard to lay in on sunny days and enjoy her toys.
*A doggy sister or brother near her size or smaller to keep her company when her owner goes out (Star is a petite 25 pounds!).
*Squeaky toys to toss and play with.
*Time to adjust to her new home.
Star was returned to NMAF in 2019 after her adoptive family moved to another state and she could not adapt to her new home. She had lived with small children in the past but should not do so in her next home, though she is fine with them in an adult supervised situation. She came back to NMAF fearful and anxious, but with patience, training and calming medication, she has made amazing progress. She is a sweet, happy & loving soul and her trusted humans (she never forgets a friend!) can bring out the best in her. She has undergone extensive professional training and has learned to be calm on walks and in public situations, but she will always need careful monitoring. She gets little wrinkles on her forehead and around her eyes when she gets worried. NMAF will provide behavioral training for her new owner who will need to spend time with Star before transition to adoption, but that time will be well worth it. Once she has made you a trusted friend, she will be yours for life and will shower you with love and affection. Star is up-to-date on all shots, spayed, microchipped, uses a doggy door, is basically non-shedding (her coat is sleek like a seal), and completely house-trained. She would do best in a quiet home without children and one similar to her current foster home (dog door, grassy yard, 2 doggy playmates - she only needs one!). She comes to PetSmart Adoption Clinic on Saturdays but does not stay the whole time, so if you want to meet her, please contact us in advance to arrange timing. Come and make Star's wishes come true!!!
Because home visits are required, NMAF dogs cannot be adopted out of the greater Albuquerque / Santa Fe area.
