Bernadette, whose color is called "Black Smoke," came to her new foster home from Street Cat Hub along with an adult cat named Teddy after he was neutered. Both cats were already ill with a viral infection. Bernadette weighed just over half a pound at six weeks of age, and with no reserves of fat or health, she and Teddy almost died the same night. With love and good veterinary care, she and Teddy both are healthy now, and she just adores her "big brother."
The duo were always within sight and sound of each other when they were ill. Bernadette did most of the talking and seemed to keep Teddy's spirits up.
"Bernie" is effervescent and loves new toys and adventures, especially her "rocking" tunnel, but always checks in with Teddy, especially at the end of a busy day of play when she curls up with him for the night in a blanket-lined bathroom sink.
Both cats live with three different dogs - one big, lazy black German Shepherd, one grumpy old Lab mix, and one way-too-playful Shelty who, of course, tries to herd all the cats.
These are happy, contented cats with jade green eyes. Though right now, getting used to the adoption center, they are still a bit shy.
