NMAF FOSTER CARE APPLICATION
Buddy is an 11-12 year old standard Beagle. This sweet guy spent the first 7 years of his life as a laboratory test animal and bears a Lab Tatoo # on the inside of one ear. At 7 years old, Buddy was turned over to Animal Humane NM and adopted by a young boy. When the boy moved away for college, he was unable to take Buddy and the family decided they did not want him. Buddy was found wandering on Central Avenue by a Disabled Veteran who fell in love with Buddy, and they became constant companions even through months of homelessness. The Veteran became a volunteer for NMAF, and we have helped Buddy & his owner through COVID, providing food, supplies, veterinary care, and sometimes money to keep them going. The Veteran is now hospitalized and unable to care for Buddy. It is not clear if he will emerge from medical care at this point, but we would like to "hold" Buddy in temporary foster care for him until that decision is made. NMAF will provide the foster with all needed supplies, food, and medical care for Buddy.
About Buddy: Because he lived in a laboratory for 7 years, Buddy was never "house broken". He does well with a belly band (NMAF will provide) and regularly scheduled bathroom breaks. Buddy requires daily medication that NMAF will provide. The vet recommended that Buddy lose 10 pounds, and he has lost 2 so far and has 8 to go. Buddy walks well on a leash and is a sweet old guy, content to be with people. He gets along with other dogs and is indifferent to cats.
If you can provide a temporary foster home for Buddy, please complete a Foster Care Application and email it to nmaf.mary@gmail.com.
