Mimi came to NMAF when her mom passed away and the family could not keep her or her companions. Coming from a rural shelter in NM, she was terribly frightened and confused. Her other companions were taken by another rescue, so are safe. Mimi's distress caused her to come down with kennel cough, even though she was only in the shelter 1 day, but she is now healthy after treatment and ready to meet her new family. Mimi has the beautiful long-legged and slender form of an Italian Greyhound but the pixie-ish face and head of a Chihuahua. At 9 pounds, she is all legs! She loves her new foster home, especially Dad, whom she snuggles with every morning while he enjoys his coffee. She is super smart and a really quick learner - here are a few fun facts about her:
*She has learned "sit" and "watch me" while her food bowl is put down. She quivers with excitement but does not go for the food until she is told "take it."
*She uses a doggie door on her own and is completely house-trained.
*She sleeps quietly in her crate all night and loves her little fleece nightie to stay warm and cozy.
*Mimi loves to play with her toys and especially likes ones that squeak. We think she would really enjoy another dog to play with or her family will need to be available for that role.
*Mimi loves to chase toys that are thrown. She brings them back but doesn't relinquish them yet, so her foster family plays with two toys...one for her to chase and a second to throw when she comes back with the first toy. Teaching her to "drop it" would be a fun skill for her new family.
*Mimi rides well in the car strapped into a doggie seat.
*Mimi is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested (negative), and ready to go to her Furever Home!
Mimi's ideal home would be one with a big yard for her to run, a secure 6 ft wall and gate (she has been known to jump up!), another playful dog (maybe a little brother???), an active family or couple who like to walk, hike, and go to the park (no children under 10 preferred). She would be a great little traveler in an RV! She needs exercise every day and is not a couch potato, though she does enjoy her cuddles. When you see her run and stretch those long legs, her Italian Greyhound heritage is quite apparent!
An APPLICATION is required to arrange a meet & greet.
